Fragrance is such a personal experience. Like the words of iconic couturier Christian Dior, “a woman’s perfume tells more about her than her handwriting.” When we launched our Talia scent, over six years ago, it was to create a sensory experience that felt bohemian and warm, with a hint of freshness. A scent that could transport you from the bustling markets of Marrakesh to the rolling citrus groves of Southern California with one sniff.
Blended by artisan perfumer Janna Sheehan in her Ojai studio, she mixed up a gorgeous blend of sweet vanilla combined with touches of earthy patchouli, musk, and exotic jasmine, and finished it off with a beautiful, tart wild orange essence. Over the years she has also helped us translate this scent to a candle, a soap and, most recently, an Eau de Parfum. “The formula is the same but Eau de Parfum uses alcohol as the carrier and I feel like it opens up the fragrance so you can smell the entire range of notes,” says Janna. “I love to wear both versions, oil is my go-to when I’m looking for something more casual whereas the Eau de Parfum feels a bit more elegant.”
Both formulations give six to eight hours of wear but if you’re new to Eau de Parfum, here are a few tricks and application tips.
Don’t rub, just spray: Rubbing your wrists together after spritzing causes heat which can alter some of the notes, primarily the top and middle ones. Just spritz both wrists and do nothing.
Be Mindful of Your Environment: Perfume is sensitive to temperature changes which can alter the scent. For example, storing your scent in a steamy bathroom can affect the citrus notes. The best place to keep your scent is in the box it came in, out of direct sunlight.
Try it head-to-toe: Since it’s alcohol-based, perfume doesn’t always last on dry skin, or if you are in a very hot climate, sweat will dissipate a scent. Try some alternative spots like spritzing it on your hair for longevity. Also, don’t forget to mist a scarf or holiday-ready sarong. To see our complete line of Talia, make your way over here.
